(12 minutes) and New Age Forum — on Guru (13:45 minutes) are edited from a 1991 Santa Barbara cable television interview.

Four Early Films

Adivarapupeta 1963 is edited from two color films, one eight and the other ten minutes long, taken shortly before Shri Swamiji left Adivarapupeta for the first time. The scenes show Swamiji in procession through the village street, numerous devotees in bhava samadhi, devotees parading Swamiji’s photograph through the village, and extremely beautiful shots of Swamiji on his asana in samadhi and with eyes open. The original films have no soundtrack, so the sounds are from Swamiji’s last return to Adivarapupeta in 1994 when he was taken in procession through the village, and bhajans recorded in Adivarapupeta. 17:30 minutes.

Early 8mm Films is edited from twenty minutes of 8mm color films taken between 1965 and the early 1970’s. They show programs and mass feedings in 1965 at Madras, Shri Swamiji giving darshan at the Bannerghatta Road ashram in Bangalore, the Adivarapupeta ashram, and Shri Swamiji at the ashram in Sambhar Lake in Rajastan, North India. (15:42 minutes)

One Year Tapas is taken from two films taken at the Bannerghatta Road ashram, Bangalore, on August 7, 1969, the day Shri Swamiji completed one year of tapas for world peace. One film is black & white and about thirteen minutes. The other is color and about twenty-three minutes. The scenes include the crowds (estimated by newspaper reporters to be over a hundred thousand), bhajans and devotees in bhava samadhi, and Shri Swamiji giving darshan. (24:32 minutes)

Madras 1970 is taken from an eighteen minute color film entitled “Camp at Hemamalani, Madras, December 10-15, 1970.” The scenes include Shri Swamiji giving darshan at various programs, devotees performing pada puja (washing the feet) to Swamiji, and Swamiji visiting a cloth merchant’s business. (17:04 minutes)
These four films were edited in 2003 and the total play duration is 74:48 minutes. Four Early Films DVD, $14 with shipping inside the United States.   $17 with shipping outside of the United States  .  ORDER

Two Films and Shiva Weds Parvati  (2003)

J. P. Nagar Ashram is edited from two black & white films, roughly twelve minutes each, taken at the main Shivabalayogi ashram in Bangalore shortly after Swamiji opened it on August 7, 1977.  The scenes include either a birthday or tapas anniversary function, with Swamiji performing a homa fire offering and giving darshan.  There is also a scene with Swamiji giving darshan in his private room.  (17:55 minutes)

Reservoir Blessing There were several occasions when Shri Swamiji brought rains to break severe droughts in the Deccan plateau of South India.  He would visit almost dry reservoirs where he would sit in samadhi, then shortly the rains would begin.  Reservoir Blessing is taken from a ten minute, black & white film probably taken in the late 1970’s, and shows Swamiji visiting a reservoir in the Bangalore area, blessing it, and bathing in it.  (8:45 minutes)

Shiva Weds Parvati is taken from a three hour video tape of Swamiji’s visit to Adivarapupeta for Mahashivaratri of 1984.  On this annual occasion, devotees perform a wedding of the gods Shiva and Parvati in the forms of two statues.  The scenes show Swamiji holding the two idols on his shoulders, parts of the wedding ceremony itself, and Shri Swamiji giving darshan both inside the ashram building and outside where the wedding was conducted by the priests.  One beautiful scene is of Swamiji sitting on the ashram building roof chatting with a few devotees.  (32:54 minutes)

These three programs were edited in 2003 and the total play duration is 59:34 minutes. Two Films and Shiva Weds Parvati DVD,  $14 with shipping inside the United States.   $17 with shipping outside of the United States    ORDER

Interview with Shivabalayogi
(Bangalore, February 6, 1994)

In early 1994, Shri Swamiji asked devotees to arrange occasions when they could ask him questions and the conversations could be tape-recorded. Swamiji wanted the question and answer material to be used in newsletters that could be distributed to all devotees. The second and last such session, on February 6, was video-taped. The conversation discernable, but the sound quality sometimes poor, in part because Swamiji refused to ask devotees to turn off the bhajan tapes that were being broadcast over loudspeakers outside Swamiji’s room. Even so, this is a good example of what it was like to be with Swamiji during such open conversations. (Edited 2002. Total play duration 67 minutes) Interview with Shivabalayogi  DVD only,  $12 with shipping inside the United States.   $15 with shipping outside of the United States  .  ORDER

Anantapur is in the state of Andhra Pradesh, several hours by road north of Bangalore.  Swamiji used to visit this city as part of his tours between Bangalore and Adivarapupeta.  We have almost three hours of video taken on the occasion in October of 1982 when Swamiji consecrated the red colored linga that he named Anantishwara, Lord of Infinity, an idol of the Divine Mother whom he named Anantishwari Devi, idols of Subramanyan and his two wives, and an idol of Swamiji himself.  It was during this visit to the Anantapur ashram that some of the most wonderful images of Shivabalayogi were recorded:  Swamiji singing extemporaneously about the gods.  (Edited 2004.  Total play duration 40 minutes plus 14 minutes extra.)
